Futureproof podcasts

podcast logoWe like to explore new ideas and technologies emerging at the cutting edge of 'sustainable' 21st century auto design. In our work, we often meet amazing, visionary people with a lot to say about how personal transport will work in the future. And when we do, we try to make sure we capture their views and share them in our podcasts.

Episodes so far:

1. Project Better Place

In this podcast we interviewed Charles Stonehill from Project Better Place. Charles sets out their plans for the future of electric vehicles, including plans to establish new 'automated service stations' to trade discharged electric batteries for fully charged batteries, thereby extending the range of EVs beyond the present 100 mile threshold.

2. Designing a resilient transport system

In this podcast we interviewed Patrick Andrews, from Riversimple, about resilience and how it applies to peak oil & climate change, and what happens to transport when there are power cuts, or fuel shortages and why does hydrogen present a resilient way to store energy for the future. Patrick also discusses how they believe open source is the way we will all design cars in the future, the benefits of cooperation and collaboration vs competition, and why the emerging field known as group think is the only way we will get the cuts we need to tackle climate change.

3. Reframing the automobiles of the future

In this podcast we interview Hugo Spowers, the British car designer from the group Riversimple, about their new hydrogen fuel cell car. He speaks about the problems with the established car makers, and muses about the cars of the future.

4. William McDonough at Nu-tech

In this podcast, we interviewed American design guru William McDonough about the future of cars and transport. He talks about how the car industry appears to have a fatal strategy, with no clear vision, and about what 'cradle to cradle' possibilities there are for a 21st century mobility system.
